Yes, I’m Still Running

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Got an e-mail from someone who wanted to know if I was still running. I guess I haven’t written much about it except “went running today” type comments.
The answer is, yes, I’m still running. I did skip my long run two weekends in a row though. The first weekend was when I went to Florida […]

A Nothing Much Day

Day 5 of School
One of the highlights of my day was that I had a special treat for breakfast… COOKIES!
Now before you scold me about this poor nutritional choice, let me present my case… I hit my snooze button one time too many and didn’t crawl out of bed until 5 a.m. I needed to […]

My Awesome Fitness Test Results

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Once a year, we in the Air National Guard, need to do a fitness test. It involves running 1.5 miles, getting our waistlines measured, and doing as many push-ups and sit-ups as we can in one-minute (each).
If you remember (or in case you didn’t know)… when I started seriously considering reenlisting in the Air National […]

One of the Best Things About Being a Triathlete

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Thanks for all the praise you’ve sent my way about Saturday’s triathlon. Many of you claim that you could never do a triathlon. I don’t buy it. Why? Because just a year ago I would have said the same thing.
And now I’ve done two!
One of the coolest things about being a triathlete is that […]

Inaugural Maniac Triathlon

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Yesterday I participated (notice I didn’t use the word “competed”) in the first ever Maniac Triathlon. This mult-sport event raised money for the Northern York County YMCA in Biddeford, Maine. I heard that the event raised about $8,000 for it.
Event consists of: 1/4 mile ocean swim… 14.7-mile bike ride… 3.2 mile run.
The day started […]

Geo-caching and More

Friday, September 19th, 2008

With only two and a half weeks left before I leave Maine for four months, I’m spending as much time with friends and family as possible.
Today I had the pleasure of spending the day with my good friend Dot. Dot loves geo-caching. If you who aren’t familiar with this treasure hunting activity visit […]

Friends Help You Beat Stress

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Saturday was an amazing day!
The morning was spent running errands with my husband, the noontime hour was spent sitting on my front steps reading a good novel, and the afternoon was spent having tea with friends.
Ahhhh…
Wait a minute… I don’t drink tea. I don’t like tea. What was I doing spending a Saturday afternoon […]

Focus on the Pleasure Not the Pain

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Today’s entry may fall in the TMI or “too much information” category. My apologies in advance. But it’s a concept I’ve been pondering lately as I rake leaves, climb on that dratted treadmill, and sort through piles of papers in an attempt to find my desk.
The concept is: Focus on the pleasure not the pain. […]

A Confused Mind Says “No”

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

I’ve heard many speakers and business marketing experts say “A confused mind says “No!”
Personal experience suggests this to be true. If I feel overwhelmed with choices, I won’t pick anything. It happens to me when shopping for clothes, makeup (which I still don’t wear because there are sooooo many choices, and breakfast cereal.
I don’t want […]

What’s Your Motivation?

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Have you ever been so motivated to accomplish something that you forgot to eat or sleep? What types of activities usually spur you to feel that way? What motivates you?
I’ve often heard that you can be motivated in two ways:

You can be motivated away from something (pain)
You can be motivated toward something (pleasure)

Amazingly, not everyone […]
