Biography - Personal
I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts where there were more cows than people…
Okay, maybe that’s starting my life story a bit too far back.
Let’s see… it’s so hard to write about yourself, isn’t it? The things we take for granted in our lives or see as less than exceptional can be pretty amazing to others. So I’ll just point out some of the many highlights in my life.
November 1979 (around then anyway)… I was baptized on a Friday night/Saturday morning at the Church of Christ in Leominster, Mass. David Davies, the youth minister, did the honors. Several friends were there to welcome me into God’s family. It was amazing. My journey to Christ started when I didn’t have anyone to share a locker with in high school. Yes… God’s mysterious ways.
August 1981… After high school I left my home in Massachusetts and headed for Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. What an amazing experience! After two years I ran out of money and still didn’t know what I wanted to major in. I joined the US Air Force and headed off to Germany after my initial training.
March 1984… started dating a good friend named Gerry. We married in June 1985. He proposed to me at Landstuhl Castle in Landstuhl, Germany. Ahhh… it was so romantic… okay, it was funny. But I treasure the memory. Gerry’s always been able to make me laugh. It’s just one of the many things I adore about him.
December 1987… my daughter was born. Epidural please! Beth was born in Macon, Georgia. My little Georgia Peach. Ahhh… I loved being a stay-at-home mom. But I knew I needed to get a life when I called Gerry at work one day so excited because someone won big on The Price is Right!
August 1990… my son was born. Back labor… Ouch! But what a burst of Sean-shine. He lights up my life.
March 1998… I joined Woodfords Toastmasters in Portland, Maine. It changed my life. God had plans for me that I couldn’t even begin to imagine. But then He told me to Imagine. Believe. Become. I’m working on it, Lord.
April/May 2003… I turned 40 on May 1, 2003. Just weeks before that wonderful birthday I completed three amazing goals:
- Completed my Masters Degree in Adult Education
- Completed my Advanced Toastmaster Gold designation in Toastmasters
- Self-published GLOW: Renew Your Spirit & Release Your Inner Beauty my first full-length book of stories
To top it off, Gerry and the kids threw me a surprise birthday party. And boy was I surprised!
June 2005… celebrated 20 wonderful years with a man that I love, respect, and honor. As I often tell him… he may not be perfect, but he’s perfect for me. We make an excellent team!
Hmmmm… as I reread what I’ve written I see that most of what I’ve shared is of a personal nature. I guess that tells you something about me as well. My family is a top priority to me.
