Celebrate the Mundane

This morning I ran three mundane errands. I went to the post office, the bank, and the grocery store.

Nothing inspirational or motivational there, right?

Wrong! It’s amazing how much joy you can find in doing the most mundane tasks.

For example, I went to the post office. Would you call this stop inconvenient? Pish-posh! I saw autumn-colored trees in a section of town I don’t usually pay attention to. I also mailed off a carton of my book Glow to a good friend who lives in Wisconsin. The thought of 60 copies of my book going to another state is exciting! I’m so excited to share my inspirational stories with people half-way across the country!

My brief stop at the bank was to withdraw enough cash to do my grocery shopping and assorted other cash based necessities. Would you call this stop boring? Hardly! As someone who has been unemployed and struggling to pay the bills, it was wonderful to know that I was withdrawing cash to take care of my family and there was still some left in the bank! For a few moments this morning I celebrated the jobs that my husband and I have as well as the good health that allows us to go to them.

My third stop was at the grocery store. Would you call this mundane? Have you ever looked at all the STUFF you can buy in a grocery store? The produce section has locally grown, organically grown, and internationally grown fruits and vegetables! The cereal aisle has a gazillion brands and flavors to satisfy the health conscious or sugar craving person. The health and beauty aids section can patch you up, make you beautiful, and leave you smelling good, too! What is mundane about a grocery store!

Take a look at the everyday experiences you have. What reasons can you find to celebrate them? Take a step away from mundane and elevate these tasks to extraordinary!

Life–and your satisfaction with it–all comes from your perception of it!

Have an amazing day!
