Happy Mother’s Day!
I can’t believe I’m blogging on Mother’s Day. I should be ashamed of myself. I am wasting precious Sunday family moments on the computer.
How many times has your inner voice told you that you are not using time to your best advantage? How many times do you listen to that voice, stop what you are doing, and put the time to better use? How many times does your inner critic sound like someone else (parent, spouse, child, friend, etc.)?
Each day you have 1,440 minutes to put to whatever use you choose. You can spend that time learning something new, visiting with loved one or sitting in front of the television set (or computer).
Who is anyone else to pass judgment on how you spend your time? Do they know if you’re working toward that next job promotion? Do they know if your feeling lonely and disconnected from the people in your life? Do they know if you’ve been overly stressed lately and “vegging out” in front of the television is a way for your mind to just shut down and heal?
I’m fortunate that my family loves to be on the computer as much as I do. Since today is Mother’s Day I should get first dibs on it (I did notice that as soon as I got up this afternoon–I work night shift, folks–my daughter signed off and allowed me to sit in the “Chair of Contentment.”
If I want to spend a few minutes writing to you, no one (not even my inner critic) should hassle me about it.
Some things we do just because we like to do them. Other people may think it’s a waste of time. We may sometimes wonder ourselves if it’s a waste of time. But if we enjoy doing it (and it isn’t harmful to others, illegal, etc.) why can’t we just relax and do it?
Each day we have 1,440 minutes. Let’s not spend it berating ourselves for how we spend it. We may decide to reflect on how we’re spending it and may decide to rework our plan, but that is a healthy way to grow.
As for today… I’m glad I spent approximately 15 minutes with you. May the remaining 532 minutes of Mother’s Day be wonderful for you!
