Exciting but Scary Investment in Your Dreams

When was the last time you scared yourself by investing a large sum of money in your dreams? Have you ever?

A good friend of mine is actively pursuing her dream to become a professional photographer and greeting card designer. She wants to use her photos on the cards. She is already an amazing photographer but she realizes that she needs to hone her skills and get a handle on the technology to create a tangible product that mirrors her internal vision.

This past week, with the guidance of her coach and support of her husband, she made a significant monetary investment in her dream. She bought the tools that she needs to move forward with her dream. I’m so proud of her!

Sometimes we take a half-hearted, cheapskate way out and find the results are less than optimal because we didn’t buy the best tools to support our goals.

(I can’t help but think of the $99 pieces of fitness equipment that can’t deliver on their promises because they just aren’t built sturdy enough.)

Anyway… the other day I received a piece of promotional mail from a man whose seminar I’ve attended and products I’ve purchased in the past. I almost threw out this piece of mail, but had a few minutes to kill before going to work so I decided to see what Darren was up to now.

Within seconds I was anxious to learn more about his new product called “Get Paid to Speak by Next Week!”

It was the next day before I could go online to learn more about this program (specifically the cost). The more I read, the more I wanted it.

Now I understand the power of a good sales letter and this certainly was one of those, but the fact remains… sometimes we really will benefit from buying products and services that promise to deliver big rewards. IF the path is one we are passionate about following.

I still hesitated on the price, but I’ve found a friend willing to split the cost and share the program CDs with me. It’s both exciting and scary to make an investment in my dreams. Mostly it’s exciting.

When opportunities present themselves to help you achieve your dreams, how do you respond? Do you blow them off or do you find a way to make them happen? Of course you have to be careful about how you spend your money, but also realize that sometimes you must be willing to spend money on equipment, education or services so that you can take your dream to the next level.

Well, I have to go roll some quarters, nickels and dimes now… I’m cashing in for a dream.
