Mid-week Report

On my Tuesday morning marketing group call two of our three members talked about mid-winter doldrums. We (yes, I was one of the two) both shared how we were ready to just toss in the towel and call it quits…

Quit our business dreams, quit the marketing calls, just quit it all.

I admitted that I just want to curl up on the couch with a blanket, a good movie and a cup of hot cocoa. And when I get tired of laying down, I’ll stand up at my table and work on a puzzle. Ahhh… the good life!

In fact, yesterday I drove down to Massachusetts to visit my mother. It was her 67th birthday. We finished one 500 piece puzzle and made good progress on a round 750-piece puzzle. It was great!

But I digress…

Both of us on the marketing call realized that it was probably just a case of the mid-winter doldrums. February has a way of doing this to us. For me, it has always been the longest month of the year. I can’t imagine how long it would seem if it actually had 30 or 31 days like all the others. Yikes!

For me it hasn’t helped that I’ve been putting in extra hours on the job. Working night shift is hard enough on the body and brain, but working extra nights just adds to the mind-muddle.

But today I’m feeling energized. I’ve done my 2-miles on the treadmill. I’ve committed to paper the outline for the workshop I’m giving next Tuesday. It’s nice to have something tangible to hold on to as I choose the stories I’ll use in it and tie all the lessons and pieces together.

Hmmmm… rather like working on a puzzle.

And it just occurred to me… February is more than half over. Yeah!!

Of course even I realize that when the month finally ends I’ll be moaning… “Oh my gosh! What happened to February? I’m so far behind on my goals for the year!” 8-)
