Go Up, Go Down… Just Don’t Stay Down.

One of the most important things we need to feel about our selected goals is passion. If there is no passion, there’s little commitment to the tasks or process of completing them.

So what do you do when your passion level keeps going up and down? I don’t mean up and down like the elevator in a three story apartment building, but up and down like the elevator in the Empire State Building.

Oftentimes that’s how I feel about my own business vision. There are some days when I don’t even want to think about it. It seems too overwhelming, too complicated, too demanding. On those days I only want to focus on the household chores, my exercise program and resting.

Other days my thoughts and actions are in high gear and I accomplish more than I imagined possible. No obstacle seems impossible. No challenge is too great. No step forward is left uncelebrated.

Today is one of those “the elevator is stalled at the lowest level” days. I’m not sure about the Empire State Building, but most elevators I’ve been in go lower than ground level!

In the past I wondered if my feelings of up and down could be hormonal. I even tracked this cycle of apathy, but I couldn’t see a matching pattern.

As I write this entry I wonder if it is because I’ve been bouncing around yet more new ideas and if the overwhelm has swallowed me up and I’m just waiting for it to spit me out again.

I’m almost positive that if I take “some” action it will break me out of this funk, but I don’t know what action to take.

Hey… I just lied… to you and myself. I do know what action I can take. I can

  • Write one of the book reports (a quick 10-point summary of one of the many books I’ve read) I thought might be useful to you.
  • Write the A Swan’s Song story about the Amaryllus plant I received for Christmas
  • Submit an article to one of the article submission websites
  • Write descriptions of the new Lunch & Learn programs I want to start offering to local businesses
  • Call the head of the Project Graduation committee to talk about a fundraising idea I have
  • You know, amazingly, suddently I want to complete each item on that list and more. I feel like I had a break through. My elevator has been fixed and I can push the button to reach any floor that I want.

What do you do when your elevator is stuck on ground level or below? What do you do to get it moving up again?
