Ahhh… It’s Over
I love Christmas. Really, I do. But I also breath a sigh of relief when it’s over.
The extra cooking, cleaning and shopping are chores that most women feel compelled to take on. Yes, some men do too, but let’s face it, many men do perhaps a quarter of the work involved in Christmas preparations.
One friend asserts that without women, Christmas wouldn’t happen at all.
In the literal sense, of course, this is true. Without Mary, Jesus wouldn’t have been born and we wouldn’t have a reason to celebrate.
But let’s face it ladies, many men and children don’t notice the effort we put forth to make this day extra special. Would they notice if we didn’t do the things we do? Maybe. I don’t know. They might notice something is missing without really being able to identify what it is… (for instance your fabulous chocolate cream pie or homemade fudge.) But still, we love to put forth the effort to create a memorable occasion.
Whether the events of the day turn out picture picture or not, we are glad we did what we could to create a treasured memory.
But now Christmas is over. The requisite family gatherings are done. The shopping, wrapping and baking are done. What didn’t get finished is forgotten.
In a few days we’ll begin the arduous task of packing away the Christmas decorations and preparing to greet the new year.
But for a few days… sit back… relax…
Enjoy the sparkle of the Christmas tree lights and the smell of scented candles. Relax. Regroup. Enjoy.
