Pizza, Games and Good Friends
Last night I spent a wonderful evening with three good friends. We ate pizza, chocolate chip cookies and played Outburst. We arrived at Ginny’s house at 5:30 p.m. and before we knew it, it was 10:15 p.m. Yikes!
But that’s what can happen when you spend time with friends. You start talking, laughing and catching up on the important things in each others lives.
This group of friends (we call ourselves the GLOW-girls or GLOW-getters based on my book GLOW) tries to spend time together every couple of months. We go to movies, art shows, shoe shopping, dinner, or just hang out at someone’s house.
There are seven women in our group and typically 3 or 4 of us can make it to a gathering. The fact that everyone can’t make it doesn’t keep the rest of us from getting together.
I hope you don’t let scheduling conflicts keep you from finding time to spend with your friends. Make it a priority and make it happen.
Friendships are too important to neglect. You never know when a friend just needs to hear your voice. And you’ll never know how much you need to hear her voice until you talk with her.
Of course I’m referring to healthy relationships where both people are strong and self-reliant for the most part. Needy or demanding friends drain your energy or leave you feeling used or abused.
Perhaps it’s time to reconsider your current circle of friends. Do you get excited to spend time with them? Or do dread it every time the phone rings? If friendship weighs you down, trust me, you don’t have real friends. It may be time to start searching for friends that will lift your spirits and help you achieve your dreams.
And the first place you should look for that friend is within yourself. You can and should be your own best friend!
