A Day for Feng Shui
Before you read any further I want you to know that I know very little about Feng Shui. I’m not even sure how to pronounce it correctly. Here’s my basic and possibly incorrect concept of it…
Feng Shui is the practice (study? art? science?) of creating spaces where energy can flow freely. It incorporates items or arrangements of items in ways that manifest positive energy and minimize negative energy.
My home needs to be Feng Shui-ed. The clutter is definitely an energy killer. The desk in my office is covered with papers, books, and other stuff that threatens to fall on the floor with the slightest breeze or gentlest nudge.
I’ve noticed that many aspects of my life occur in cycles. The cleanliness/clutter cycle is a big one. I don’t have the motivation or determination to clean/straighten my office (and the rest of the house for that matter), but I also don’t have the energy to work on the many projects I’d like to complete. I know that the clutter in my home is blocking my energy.
Do I believe in the seemingly mystical powers of free flowing Feng Shui energy? I’m not sure. I do know that clutter in my home or office also clutters up my mind. I see the books that need to be shelved, the papers that need to be filed and the junk that needs to be put away and my mind focuses on when, how, and how much time it will take for me to straighten that space. My mind is pulled in yet another direction.
So… I think on my next days off I’ll take some time to really focus on cleaning up a little bit. Maybe I’ll set the timer for 15 minutes. After all… anyone can clean for 15 minutes!
Right?!
