Teach Your Children About Success
“How many languages can a child learn? As many as you will take the time to teach them.” ~ Jim Rohn
You’ve probably heard the above or similar statements about the ability of children to learn whatever you are willing to teach them. Children are the proverbial sponges. They keep absorbing more and more information.
Children are able to learn important success strategies just as they can learn how to read and write.
How do you teach success principles to your children? One lesson, one opportunity, one situation at a time.
- When you are making a decision, tell your child the factors you considered, the potential results of the options and the reasons behind your final choice.
- When you are mending a damaged relationship, describe your feelings of hurt, fear or anger. Then share the reasons why the relationship is worth fixing and rebuilding. Let your child watch you as you work to overcome the negative feelings so that you can restore the positive ones.
- When celebrating a victory recount the hard work and commitment that you dedicated to achieving the wonderful results you got. Share the obstacles you overcame and recognize the people who helped you along the way.
Your children can learn to be successful by watching you in action. But they will learn even more if you explain the action steps and thought processes you followed along the way.
