In and Out of Sorts
Today has been an unsettled day. I feel restless. I feel unfocused. Have you ever had one of those days? Good, it’s always nice to know you aren’t alone in the world.
Why has my day been unsettled? I’m not 100 percent sure, but I think it started with the rain. Every morning I crawl out of bed (or if you’ve read Zig Ziglar’s book See You At The Top–I jump out of bed and yell “What a wonderful day!”) and go for a two mile walk. It is my time to wake up, think, and put order to my day.
But it was raining this morning, and although many friends remind me that I am not sweet enough to melt in the rain, I don’t walk in the rain. So I just got my day started instead.
I did the e-mail thing, the laundry thing, the grocery store run thing. But nothing seems to be falling in to place for me.
Doubts even started to creep in about what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. Second guessing the value I can offer my clients, the tools I can share with them and the knowledge I have gained. It started as a downer of a day.
But just after lunch there was a break in the rain. I decided to take a chance (and my umbrella) and headed out the door. Luckily there were only a few drops as I walked, not enough to even make me pop the umbrella open.
Amazingly, I felt better with step I took. I was stunned at how quickly my day came in to focus. Suddenly I felt the physical and mental energy that had been missing.
Now, rather than moping around the house (like a kid dreading the return to school tomorrow) I feel compelled to work on an upcoming workshop I’ll be giving. I feel like editing the next story to be published in “A Swan’s Song” my monthly e-zine. (You can sign up on my website). I feel focused and energized.
So when you find yourself experiencing a day like I was having… unsettled, in and out of sorts… not coming or going… take a look at what you’ve done or not done. Look at how your routine may have been disrupted. Just recognizing what threw you off kilter, may help you get back on track.
