I bit off more than I could chew, now my “To Do” list is even longer
Have you ever bitten off more than you can chew? What ends up happening? You either choke the food down which isn’t a pleasant experience. Or you spit it out and swear off that food until you forget the discomfort and pain.
Well today I planned to nibble on some web site work and I bit off a chunk that I just can’t seem to swallow. For the past 3 hours I’ve been chewing and chewing and chewing and all that seems to be happening is that my “To Do” list is getting even longer. Oy!
Here’s what happened…
I was working on my Search Engine Optimization course and thought I only had a few items on my check list to put the finishing touches on the pages I was working on. But as I was doing this, I realized that I had missed a point here or a point there. So I took care of them.
Then I noticed that one of the recommended changes for a link on that page would need to be changed on all of my other pages. Yes, I had a work around in place, but it’s much better to have the real deal in place. So I decided to make the changes on just my home page www.donnadoyon.com and the template that I create new pages from and leave the work-around in place for the other pages.
I made a note to myself to make the changes on the other pages of site in the coming days.
I continued down the SEO list for my original page (which by the way is a new page containing information and excerpts from my book GLOW: Renew Your Beauty and Release Your Inner Beauty. Check it out this collection of short motivational stories.
Anyway… the list of changes to make and things to do got longer and longer. You’ve had this happen to you, right? You make one change or get one thing done only to realize how much more there is to do?
Yes, I understand and am currently experiencing that level of frustration and seemingly uselessness in making changes. But let me tell you… the changes I made today will make a difference in how my web pages rank in the search engines. It may take time for me to see the results, but I have faith that they will happen.
It’s like eating an elephant… Okay, I know you may not want to eat an elephant, but if you absolutely had to, how would you do it? Yup… just one bite at a time.
When you are working on or considering a project that seems overwhelming, just remember that you can plod away at it a little at a time. There are days, like today for me, when you’ll spend more time or energy than you planned, but that’s okay. It’s making progress.
For me today, I learned a few things that I don’t ever want to do again because it took time to undo them. What a valuable lesson for a Saturday morning! Yes, I made a note of these things so I won’t have to relearn the lesson or reexperience the frustration.
What are chewing on today? Are you nibbling or taking a nourishing bite of what will sustain your dreams?
As for me… I think I’ve had enough for today. But I’ll be back at it tomorrow. Yum, yum… food for the soul.
