Feeling Scattered ‘Cuz There’s So Much To Do

I pride myself on being a list writer. I adore lists. Sometimes I will add an item to a list just so I can experience the joy of crossing it off. Some people think I’m sick to do that, but I like to keep track of what I’m accomplishing. It also helps prevent tasks from slipping through the cracks.

Today my list seems to be longer than usual. It will be just about impossible to get all of the items done, but I’ll plug away at them one task at a time. I’ll have to be careful about how/when I reward myself for my little successes. Somedays my reward time (meaning I am playing Freecell Solitaire) eats away at my task time.

I think one of today’s challenges will be that my list contains items from several aspects of my life… My list includes:

Doing laundry
Weeding the flower garden and spreading bark mulch
Cleaning the kitchen
Updating this blog (in progress!!)
Catching up on client e-mail
Posting a new audioblog entry
Creating a one-page description for a class I want to teach
Creating a cover letter to send the company with the description
Updating my Your Virtual Retreat website
Picking up my daughter from school
Hosting a “Check In Day” at Your Virtual Retreat
and more
You get the idea…

So I have to spread my focus in different areas of my life and try to get the most done that I can. I’ll have to prioritize the items and work on each task based on how important it is.

Fortunately most of the items are important but not urgent, so if some need to be pushed off until tomorrow, it is okay.

I read that the late Mary Kay Ash (of Mary Kay Cosmetics) used to create a task list every evening. She limited the list to 6 items. And each day she worked hard to complete only those six items. So I think I’ll follow her guideline and revise my own list.

What are you working on today? How do you prioritize what will get accomplished and what won’t? Do you have a strategy or do you just wing it? Do you like your results?

If you need help setting priorities or creating your “To Do” list, spend some time with me at Your Virtual Retreat and I’ll help you put a workable plan in place.

Ah… one item on my list is finished. Only five more to go!
